Like so many trails in Alaska, the Purinton Trail was created by users and has many of the features of user-created trails: fall-line alignments and big trail-braided mudholes. Happy Trails, Inc. re-routed the first mile of the trail to a sustainable grade on solid soil, connecting to a big bridge-like structure built by the Mat-Su Trails Council to cross a super-size mudhole. This trail features spectacular mountain views and rugged Chugach back country further out. Thanks to State of Alaska DNR, friendly neighbors and my family crew: Johnna, Mark, Vance, and Luke Underwood.
