Since its inception in 1963, the Equinox Marathon has been one of the most challenging marathons in the world. The Equinox Marathon Trail climbs over the top of Ester Dome, down the other side, then back over the top. In 2012, Happy Trails had the privilege of creating a new trail segment of the Equinox Marathon Trail, moving one mile of the course from Ester Dome Road to a singletrack winding through the forest nearby. This trail segment was first used in the 2012 Equinox Marathon. Happy Trails hired a hand crew to construct this trail. Special thanks to the Interior Trails Preservation Coalition, Eric Troyer, Stan Justice, John Estle, and many others involved in getting this trail planned and financed. Thanks also to my excellent crew: Marshall Anderson, Andrea Bond, Ron Koczaja, Andy Sterns, and Andy Baltensperger. And special thanks to Marshall for this fine stop-motion video.
