Kincaid Park is Anchorage's premier cross-country ski trail system and it
already had a very dense network of trails, but some Anchorage mountain
bikers looked at it and said, "why not more?". So Lee Bolling and Ryan
Greeff contacted Janice Tower, the Queen Bee of Single Track Advocates, and
the project got rolling on their combined enthusiasm and experience. Happy
Trails Inc. had the privilege of designing and building the resulting trail.
The ski trail system at Kincaid is athletic, big, robust, fast and sometimes
scary with sections of chill, so we tried to mirror that in the mountain
bike trail. We built plenty of jumps, banked curves, one-way downhill
half-pipes, and- oh, yeah- winter fat-biking means we have to be careful
about the ski trail crossings. Huge thanks to the Nordic Ski Association of
Anchorage for their generosity in agreeing to the idea in the first place.
Thanks also to Brian Vaughan of Ptarmigan Ptrails, who led the work crews
who so perfectly finished the trails. Also to the Municipality of
Anchorage, Scott Krueger, Ben Powell, Craig Norman, and literally hundreds
of volunteers who worked on the trail.
