Glacier Lake Trail

Originally routed across boggy alpine tundra and a section of floating fen near MacLaren Summit on the Denali Highway, the Glacier Lake Trail was a mess until Happy Trails built a re-route in August 2007. Following an excellent design and layout by Kevin Meyer, the trail now floats across the uplands surrounding Rock Creek and Glacier Lake on a dry, sidehill route.

Caribou were massing in the area as we wound the trail around small tarns and through ancient glacial moraines. Reflections of red and orange foliage doubled the landscape in mountain lakes. We left a line in the shape of nature.
